Toowoomba, QLD - A devastating house fire in Toowoomba has claimed the life of a nine-year-old boy and left a community in mourning. The incident, which occurred in Harristown around 12:30 am today, has resulted in a 34-year-old woman being taken into police custody as investigations into the circumstances of the fire continue.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Alderley Street following reports of a blaze engulfing a single-family home. Firefighters battled the flames for several hours, facing challenging conditions as the fire rapidly spread. Despite their efforts, a young boy tragically lost his life. The identity of the boy is being withheld pending notification of family.

Six people were present in the house at the time of the fire. In addition to the deceased child, a 34-year-old woman was taken into police custody as a person of interest. The remaining four occupants, including other children, were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and minor injuries. Paramedics transported them to Toowoomba Hospital for further assessment and care.
